I suspect a lot of people here will read this and think “web3 solves this.” But the problem isn’t one of decentralization or centralization. It’s one of incentives and convenience. A demand for convenience has shifted incentives for products to be subscription based.

It makes me think many things are going to move back (in the digital space) from subscription model to ownership model especially because of the convenience is going to be easier and things are going to move local first

I believe this as long as the incentive for the creator/company is there. It’s hard to go from $20 a month in revenue to $50 once or whatever.

My uninformed math says that, per play, a band will make more from me over the my lifetime if I buy their album on Bandcamp versus streaming it on Spotify. But will enough people buy it on Bandcamp to make a difference?
