Badges is just another word for reputation. Limiting it to the number of followers was never gonna work. But the power badge is still limited in its ability to detect legitimate, active users. Why not leverage open data to make more comprehensive determinations?

We've tried a lot of the onchain stuff, couldn't get it to work. Too many low quality accounts have credentials, balances, attestations etc. The best predictor of quality in our experience is "who likes your stuff". All the onchain signals can usually be purchased or grinded through by a dedicated airdrop farmer.

you need financial backing for reputation Otherwise you get noise. It’s the same problem validators have in proof of stake and why the require capital to approve transactions
