I have to do something creative every day or I will sink into depression or anxiety. At least, that’s what has happened when things out of my control kept me too busy to spend time creating for a while. Creating art is where my joy lies, where my healing is, and where I find peace in this often frustrating and stressful life. The process of creating art is something I can direct, control and curate without anyone else’s requirements or expectations, but I can also share the outcome and connect with others in a visceral way, which is its own type of joy. I simply NEED to create art.

"Creating art is where my joy lies, where my healing is, and where I find peace in this often frustrating and stressful life.". This is so profound. How long have you been creating with intent & purpose now?

I was serious about creating since I was pretty young. I took private lessons from a tenured local artist in my teens and almost went to art school for college. But my life took a detour when I started my family earlier than I planned and I chose a more stable career while also being a parent. So my creativity wasn't channeled into fine art for many years, though I was always creating with things that I could do quickly, in sessions or sporadically like jewelry making, furniture refinishing, digital art and photography. It wasn't until I had an empty nest and reached a burnout point with my job that I realized how much I really needed to capture the vision of the world I'd rather live in. I started using AI as a tool for that and incorporating my previous digital art and photography to create new work. I could iterate quickly, work when I have a free moment and it didn't cost a ton for supplies, plus I enjoy the post processing as well. It's been a daily practice to create now for 3+ years.
