Channel Changes and You (a thread) MAJOR Channel changes take place today, Oct 4, around 1:00 PM PDT. If you are a host, you should be studying the Notion notes about channels and be ready to invite moderators, human or bots, to your channel and decide how you will invite new members going forward. As a channel user, what happens at 1 PM will be different for every channel you are casting in. If you are NOT invited to join a channel and become a member, you won’t be able to cast into the channel. The Warpcast UX will change and you will be stopped from casting. You will have read access to all channels. If you reply in a channel that you aren’t a a member of, you are labeled as spam inside the channel and your replies go to the “show more replies” bucket unless a moderator or the original caster engages with your post. The UX will not stop you from replying. If you don’t like how a channel is set up, make your own channel. There are over 13,000 channels on Farcaster. Find your tribe.

If you currently have a spam label, channel changes will be very good for you. You should focus all of your energy into channels where you are an invited member. All of your casts and replies are visible in these channels. You spam label does NOT apply inside channels where you are a member. Use them well.

All channels will only have ONE feed. There is no more Main and Recent. All feeds will be in REVERSE Chronological order. Meaning, whomever casted last is at the top of the feed. Everyone is on equal footing now. No one has an advantage to being seen inside the channel. All casts are treated equally. No more special treatment is given to those with a “activeOnFcNetwork” flag set to true (aka invisible old power badges). However, if you don’t have this flag set to true, your frames will still be collapsed for now.

The spam problem is now being passed to channel hosts to manage. If there is spam in the channel, it’s because the owner of the channel invited spammers. If the feed in a channel is terrible, it’s because the channel is being poorly managed. It will be up to each channel host to keep their channel clean and keep spammers out. If you spam a channel, you will most likely be kicked out of the channel and no longer allowed to post. Be extra careful and follow the rules of the channel. You can always buy your own channel and set up your own rules.

You can’t get marked as spam anymore replying in channels. If you aren’t a member, try to make your reply as meaningful and engaging as possible so the original caster engages with it.

"If you don’t like how a channel is set up, make your own channel." Well, I agree that this is all that matters. But some channels require investment, such as holding coins. Sometimes you can sell that coin if you don't like it, but sometimes it's locked and you can't sell it right away. I think it's almost fraudulent to exclude certain users when they meet the requirements in such a channel and are not doing anything that would bother other members. 5000 $Units
