To wrap up my Foto Friday, let’s go with one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life. On New Year’s Eve in 2017, there was a bench collapse on the Big Island which severed a lava tube, creating this lava hose spilling millions of gallons of molten lava into the ocean, with explosive results. Stay tuned for my AMA in about an hour, at 4 PM Eastern time.

This is mind blowing to think you saw this in person. So good words don’t do it justice!

Yeah, like I love this photo but it is impossible to explain what this was like in person. I also took a “wide angle” frame at 200mm to show the boat near the bottom of the lava hose (and the guys standing above it) as a sense of scale, but I didn’t think to take a cell phone shot from where I was standing, or video, for that matter. It’s like I always forget my DSLR does video.

You know you want to do it all but sometimes you just have to do what you do then enjoy the moment for all that it is. 💖

I definitely took a few minutes throughout the morning, standing back from the camera and just watching.
