I really appreciate ambition. I think it's important for some people to be ambitious since it is often a prerequisite to doing something great. But there is this weird perversion with ambition that portrays it as some kind of moral good. It's not -- if anything, it's totally orthogonal.

🎯 so many examples throughout history where simply sitting, walking, thinking, exploring, etc led to breakthrough ambition to explore curiosity often seems to play just as big a role as ambition about “doing”, “building”, etc

Well said. Ambition can be an asset, but it can also distract you from what matters.

I like the distinction they make in the Baghavad Gita. Desires can be your sacred purpose or compulsions. Ambition is desire, and desire can turn into compulsion when you do it for the fruits of the labour rather than the labour itself.

Ambition is like a double-edged sword, so you must work hard to handle it well.and I

I agree with you, but I'd say this perversion is natural to us because we are attracted to people who project success in the future. It's orthogonal when you look at it logically in the 21st century, but to me it makes sense why society views ambition as a moral feature.

An ingredient which can be perceived throughout, but one that should never be made the main focus of the dish. Otherwise becoming unbearably distasteful for everyone.

I agree with this post. Ambition is important for achieving great things, but it doesn't make someone morally superior. It's just a trait that can help drive success.

I agree with you. Ambition can be a crucial driver for achieving great things, but it's not necessarily a moral virtue. It's more about personal drive and goals rather than an inherent moral quality

Agree that people can be ambitious for nefarious reasons. Ambition is essentially the catalyst of intrinsic human behavior, and without ambition people still retain the same desires regardless if they have it.

Ambition can fuel greatness, but it's not a moral compass. It's a tool, not a virtue.

Ambition sets us all on fire.🔥 It's what fuels us, what makes us go after what we want. It can't be a moral good.

So people shouldn't try to force people to 'seem' ambitious yes?

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on ambition. While ambition is indeed an important factor in achieving great things, it shouldn't automatically be seen as a moral virtue. Ambition can help us accomplish significant goals, but it doesn't always align with moral values. It can be separate from morality and may have either positive or negative effects, depending on how and why it is pursued.
