@henryfarrell It is widely reported that Silicon Valley, and the cryptocurrency industry in particular, are some of the largest donors to the upcoming political election in the U.S. Do you see that as acceptance of voice over exit from the technology industry, or part of a broader strategy to buy time while still ultimately focused on usurping existing institutions?

@henryfarrell in your essay 'No exit' you state, "To promote open inquiry and free, market-based technological progress, you need an open society, not one founded on the enemy principle.” How does one encourage Silicon Valley and its echo chamber to participate in legitimate discussions when 'alternative' media apparatuses are used largely to foment what Marc Andreessen describes as 'availability cascades' and effectively gaslight 'enemy' opinions?

@henryfarrell how significant, if at all, were the US and European decisions to expropriate Afghan and Russian FX reserves, respectively, in pushing non-OECD countries to reduce their reliance on the dollar? Observers, myself included, have expected a shift away from the dollar as the world's reserve currency for some time, but in practice it seems dependence is increasing. What would cause this to change, and do you anticipate such a shift?

@henryfarrell how does todays level of privacy compare to 50/100/500/2000 years ago? On one hand, electronic surveillance is at peak highs. On the other hand, it’s easier than ever to leave your small town, move to a big city, disappear in the crowd where no one knows who you are or what you did.

@henryfarrell it appears that the networked world is fragmenting, not only with respect to China's 'great firewall,' but also with European countries (e.g., Germany) demanding greater control and local hosting over data While the US may enjoy an underground empire through the infrastructure layer—an expensive and time-intensive capability to attack—how, if at all, do you envision states reclaiming greater sovereignty, either at the hardware or software layers?

@henryfarrell what do you think about the trends between globalization and localization? Where do you see these trends going in the next decade or two? Will we continue to get more globalization or will we see more isolationist or localization pick up?

@henryfarrell Thank you for taking questions! In 'No Exit Opportunities' you write: "Actual free markets require a state that is powerful and constrained." Do you feel the current state of SV shows an openness to non-restraint or that there is common ground with those outside of SV? Do you think the current political cycle may be being used as a show of non-restraint?

@henryfarrell is the choice between republican vs. democrat an illusion? I myself am on the center-left and have felt disappointment in how Biden has handled the conflict in the Middle East Do you have any comments on the current election and how that might impact current events?
