I went to see Gladiator II recently. The previews didn't feature a single original movie. Zero. Not one. What's gone wrong with Hollywood that we've become so adverse to risk taking?

I assume in part itโs the impact of the writers strike etc impacting production rhythms. Post Sundance reckon youโll see more original stuff flowing again.

DVDs donโt exist; meaning that the movie has a single shot to make all its money back aka hence producers will go for the safe bet

It makes me so angry and depressed. It really makes me feel like itโs a race to the bottom. Or rather a race to the middle. On the other hand, it leaves a huge opening for someone to do something different. I just worry itโs not viable and no one cares. Wait, sorry, I thought this was the /gloom channel.

Profit maximization leads to risk minimization, consolidation leads to homogeneous model hegemony, lending is underwritten by models, slopstick bullshit gets the green lights. It's all so exhausting. An upside of AI in the creative space is giving the myopic and fanatically committed creatives tool kits self-produce E2E works
