Hey Phil, i live in Milan, cant help with Rome but if you ever come by here i can show you around and help you find a place Also.. Rome in august is INSANELY hot (and empty) If you can postpone to September your life will be easier😂

I’d recommend avoiding Rome as it’s really really hot that specific month - try going north towards Milan and then come back down in September
