In the early days of Bitcoin, around 2010, a programmer named Laszlo Hanyecz made history by conducting the first real-world transaction using the cryptocurrency. Craving pizza, Laszlo offered 10,000 Bitcoins in exchange for two large pizzas from Papa John’s. At the time, the value of Bitcoin was so low that the transaction was considered a novelty rather than a financial exchange. Those 10,000 Bitcoins, worth about $41 at the time, would be valued at hundreds of millions of dollars today. Laszlo’s pizza purchase remains a legendary tale in the cryptocurrency world, illustrating both the humble beginnings and the meteoric rise of digital currencies.
