This was the fastest and easiest way for me to clean up my following. 

I was following several hundred people that haven’t casted in 6+ months

I didn’t unfollow every inactive account, but it made it easy to go through the list and manually keep some that I still want to follow even if inactive for now

I know it's personal preference, but i'd actually still want to keep those who haven't casted in some time.   
Following someone takes effort, and it's a nice surprise when they do cast esp some big accounts

Unfollowing using other metrics makes more sense;
