Don’t want users to HAVE to buy an ENS on L1. By default, users can register a free username. 

If you want a decentralized name, ENS will be supported as a first class name but you’ll need to pay for that

Yeah I was surprised to hear this in the meeting too given it’s a pretty big change. Didn’t know if there was any prior discussion about it since I miss some dev calls.
