Friendly reminder that the bananas you buy at the store, Musa acuminata or Cavendish banana, can’t be found in the wild. This popular variety is propagated through cloning, since they are clearly seedless, making them dependent on human cultivation for their reproduction. So, basically, I have no idea the name of the bananas from my backyard. These seem to be smaller and sweeter, my neighbor says they’re “banano enano (midget banana)” - and no, they’re not “murrapos”

Es una lástima que el mundo de la tecnología sea en inglés, ya que hay tanta información en otros idiomas que se pierde o que no se tiene en consideración. O también, se pierde la oportunidad de trabajar con personas muy cualificadas, solo porque no tienen un inglés C1. Hace 7 años decidí ayudar a mi comunidad y ofrecer clases de inglés tipo “business English” o “ESL”, porque la tecnología es en inglés, y así será por mucho tiempo.

In Colombia, we don’t have crows or ravens (which are both part of the Corvidae family), Instead, we have these funky birds from the same family. I present the Inca Jay🪽(jays, magpies, crows, and ravens are all in the same family😵‍💫)

I used to be offended by my friends assuming that because I am a biologist I know the name of every random animal/insect/plant, but this picture is so cute. And yes, this picture is of an alpaca AND a llama.

So apparently I had a not so friendly bacteria in my gut, H. pylori, and this fellow was stealing all my nutrients, expensive vitamins, and iron. I am finally done with the treatment and can go back to my emotional support supplements.

I’m a big fan of Robert Sapolsky. As a biologist who loves to read about biochemistry and behavior, he does an excellent job of breaking down any complicated scientific topic, like free will. In his latest book, it’s remarkable how he identifies the errors in New Age’s take on “creating your own reality”
