anon I warned you - what's your game plan now for your shiny decentralised protocol, which is developed and its UI deployed via GH? It might not be that bad, but I remind anyone that too many projects don't have a proper backup plan if GH would be down for weeks or months. https://x.com/pcaversaccio/status/1725925117383868679?t=oyNxYYPiZ9xsU8kb2tezwA&s=19

we already had to learn that lesson when an angry hosting provider decided to bulk report our repo to get us dropped. we eventually reappeared on github, but now we have our own hosting using gitlab, and eventually will bring a github alternative onto the protocol itself

I think a something like this https://radicle.xyz/, which is a git decentralized solution, should be used as a backup by the community. Thanks to @stevedylandev.eth for sharing the tool.

We had a contributor get flagged for spam through some algorithm… and we pretty much for a period of time was at the mercy of Github to reinstate his account so we could get all the collaboration notes we had on his PRs so we could continue reviewing his work. Microsoft made him and all of his work history disappear overnight.

Bitbucket? Gitlab? Half of the solution is there in that anybody who has the repo cloned could push it somewhere else. I think people forget that git remains a decentralized technology. We just let one big provider dominate as a hosting solution. Good reminder though that maybe we should start auto-cloning things to other locations...

There were a couple of projects that I've seen tried to decentralise code maintaining (Radicle & Lagrangedao) though I am not sure if they are good.
