Great post on managing high performers. Advice #1: manage them! “Doing and coaching are two separate skills; you can help someone improve without being better than them” https://blog.staysaasy.com/p/managing-high-performers

"In case you are wondering where v1.14.1 went, let's just say, the continuous integration gods have not been good to us." If you're building in the open you might as well replace BS with humor, love to see it https://github.com/ethereum/go-ethereum/releases/tag/v1.14.2

iPads don't need faster CPUs, they need a more open developer ecosystem where it's possible for app developers to actually build a business. As it is the hardware is wasted as a netflix device.

I guess this actually just points out the ridiculousness of someone just reading out written statements for reporters https://www.theguardian.com/technology/article/2024/may/03/ukraine-ai-foreign-ministry-spokesperson

“investing in R&D is a way to buy a sort of talent buffer: when business is good, researchers can focus on things that won't be practical for a decade, but when the business is threatened, there's a talent bench that can be redirected…” https://capitalgains.thediff.co/p/moonshotsorbuybacks

The accepted wisdom for how to keep people motivated is “autonomy, mastery and purpose”. But there’s a 4th thing: being surrounded by great people. To keep “A players” motivated make sure they’re surrounded with only “A players”.

This is the other real value of the rollup-centric roadmap, besides scaling: it’s the ability to experiment, see what works, and evolve https://x.com/dmihal/status/1783111817608495418?s=46

We’re behind the UAE now. Actually I think the UAE should be higher on this list (great in every respect except for personal freedom), but anyway Canada seems to be falling in these rankings generally https://www.economist.com/graphic-detail/2024/03/13/which-countries-have-the-best-and-worst-living-standards

mev-boost prints this log when it tries to get a block: "getHeader request start - xx milliseconds into slot" What are good, normal and bad timings for that?

This is a decent list. I’ve read all except “From Worst to First” and “The Ride of a Lifetime”, and I’d recommend any of them https://zaidesanton.substack.com/p/10-must-reads-for-engineering-leaders

It seems to me that the best way to support solo stakers with grants or donations is via Smoothly. The smoothing pool is growing and I think it will become a large proportion of solo stakers.

Retired people live on capital gains. And the way things are going, by the time most Canadians retire $250k will be worth so little that it will affect everyone. That’s tax fairness.

As a long-time frequent flyer I’m certain beyond any doubt that boarding became slower after they changed to boarding by “zone” instead of by row
