It is rational to be more afraid of man than of nature, because it is rational to be afraid of powerful optimizers.

This is also often why we are more suspicious of for-profit versions than non-profit versions of the same activity.

Algorithms for our feeds will be looked back upon as a terrible idea. They’ve been optimized for profit, but that means anger & bad faith. It’s a great point. It shines a light on why representative democracy is best.  Ore for people with good judgement etc.
