Nietzche ,"the last man" -- We often champion equality as the cornerstone of liberal democracy, yearning for a world where all are recognized uniformly. Yet, as humans, we are driven by a natural, primal need for distinction ; for inequality that elevates some above others, as Nietzsche observed in his vision of the "first men," who seek prestige and struggle to assert their superiority. This tension reveals the paradox at democracy’s heart: we crave equal treatment, but we also hunger for recognition that sets us apart. Nietzsche’s "last man," by contrast, embodies the opposite; a figure content with comfort, lacking aspiration or the will to excel, satisfied by mere survival and peace.
