Following, some main history achievements related to the crypto world.
- Fundamental ideas of zero-knowledge proofs, first published in 1990
- 2016, zcash launched it was a very raw thing, just useful for one very specific purpose.
- 2018, my friend Jordi Baylina launched Circom, a general purpose programming language that allows to build almost anything.
- 2019, PLONK was engineered. Removing the main pain-point, the specific trusted setup.
- 2020/21 the zkRollups, a new way to compress blockchain transactions in a cryptographic verifiable way. Allowing high scalability.
- 2023 the zkEVM, crypto-magicians managed to implement all the ethereum op-codes into zkSnark.
- 2024 the zkVM, a general purpose virtual machine that can run almost any program using standard programming languages (LLVM compatible)
What's next?? Probably dedicated hardware (ASICs) to make computation less expensive and faster. 0 reply
