What's the de facto process for token ticker symbols these days? i.e. how do prevent collisions? How does it work across Ethereum vs. Solana? Is CoinGecko the loose consensus canonical source of truth?

there could be a million $degen, you should never look only at the name but the address, chain and other factors to decide if it's the "real" deal
