The modern framing of competition as between two differentiated parties is quite different from how it has been used throughout history. Competitors are similar; they move in the same direction towards the same goal. The more similar, the more intense the competition becomes.

That's right Phil. When competitors move in the same direction and have similar goals, it can create a competitive landscape with several advantages. I think with multiple players striving for similar objectives, innovation and R&D investments are encouraged, driving progress and advancements in the industry.
