By inventing, trying out, and having competitions between different cultures, we're doing something that's every bit as meaningful as space exploration.

I like the idea that we need more local cultural experiments that diverge from the global consensus. But ironically it seems like to permit this the dominant culture has to enforce valuing diversity and experimentation.
