confounding factors abound. E.g. this could be due to mere selection effects (parents that care about education pick a charter school) or socioeconomic factors like the network that charter parents have access to.

do agree there should be more experimentation in education. But it's always important to be intellectually honest about the difference between P(x | y) and P(x | do(y))

yes selection bias exists on parental level - parents motivated to get vouchers or send kids - and school level selecting best kids in the case of KIPP. but a market based approach to schools where i can select the school i want to the government to send $ to will only increase the standard of schooling.

yes. unfortunately the democratic party thinks they are ‘anti’ public schools. since they are an alternative to the traditional public school system. the dems have a massive teacher voting base so they don’t support any innovations in school types.
