As a combat medic veteran, I don’t generally enjoy war movies—how could I? I’ve lived it. The smells, the sounds, the weight of it all—it’s not something you can just watch and feel "entertained." But Saving Private Ryan is different. It’s my favorite war movie, not because I like reliving the memories, but because it’s the only film I’ve seen that comes close to showing the raw, unfiltered chaos of combat. The opening scene alone—Omaha Beach—hit like a flashback. The screams, the blood, the overwhelming sensory overload. It felt real. For a lot of vets, it was real, bringing back buried memories, some we’d rather leave in the past. That realism is why it stands out to me—it’s not about glorifying war, but about showing how it feels to be there. For those who don’t know what it’s like, it’s as close as they’ll get. That said, I focus on Living, Loving, and Laughing now—life’s too short to dwell on the past. Also, if you like this and want more let me know 👇

what about hacksaw ridge ? i didn't watch it for the longest time cuz idk it sounded like a horror movie or i really had no idea what it was about. but when i read it was about a conscientious objector medic i was more interested and then i watched what happened and had to look up if it was real because it was crazy.

Ok... So my buddy in Alaska who was a military intelligence officer asked me to watch it with him. Yes definitely for a recent movie... Easiest top ten... It made me appreciate medics before me 😅 I am not as tough as those old school veterans.
