This can happen to you as well on a smaller scale, I've literally just warned about it yesterday – in particular, things most people are not aware of: Avalanche Bridge and ThorChain are not trustless – they are scams under the hood that can steal your money. Ofc, they acted in good faith this time but this also means that they are not proper web3 solutions, and so they can be coerced to submission at will if you are inconvenient to some random government or corporation (similarly to Circle and Tether).
