This is dangerous precedent. We should not normalize invasions and gaslight the invaded.

What’s the gaslighting specifically? I’m by no means an authority on this topic, and ChatGPT is wrong all the time, but it does seem like elections have been suspended and freedom of press curtailed

Ahh thank you — that’s the nuance I was originally wondering about! I think that’s a flaw in Ukrainian law. Thankfully we don’t have the same in the US. In that case I don’t think it’s fair to frame the suspension as something he did (out of the context of the country’s martial law provision). That’s gas lighting. What about the reduction in press freedom? There nuance? Seems like something they cooked up on their own and wiki says 60% of Ukrainian journalists consider the actions censorship

The United States army had an entire department of censorship during ww2 and would even censor weather news because they thought it would make it harder for the enemy to attack

Woahh that’s crazy about the weather censorship There will always be reasons to censor info and do other things in the name of national security etc. I’m in the camp it doesn’t more harm than good, which comes from a place of distrusting people in power (especially as they gain more power like censorship) Not black and white though
