Viewing history for new members of a group is at odds with our privacy and security goals: specifically forward/backward secrecy. Apps that let you view past messages are going to be vulnerable to an attacker compromising your current keys and being able to read past messages. We decided it wasn’t worth the risk.

Lots of XMTP apps do that at the app layer. It's all composable. For example, Converse can show you suggested contacts based on your Farcaster social graph.

XMTP's identity layer is super lightweight so it can be composable with other identity providers like ENS and FID. @cassie is wicked smart. And very generously spent some time with our team last year to walk us through FIP-99. I sure hope FC ends up using it, since the privacy is 1,000X better than Warpcast today.

You can build a group chat protocol in a day or two. Not that hard. Building one that respects user privacy is a different story. Congrats to the team on shipping a version of group chat in line with our core values around privacy and security. Getting all those checkboxes on the same chart is no small feat.

Hey Boris, Yes, we are switching all our message encryption over to MLS starting with groups. Today, XMTP Labs runs the network using a fork of Waku. You can see the node software here (https://github.com/xmtp/xmtp-node-go). Working hard to let others run nodes.

Pretty much feature complete. But under the hood we are making breaking changes for the next month and you should use burner wallets and wipe your local DB on every upgrade to the SDK.

Are you using https://www.npmjs.com/package/@xmtp/frames-client on the client-side? That should handle all the signing for you

What excites me the most about /open-frames is that each new context inspires new experiences. Feeds -> multiplayer, public Group chat -> multiplayer, private DMs (+ bots) -> single-player, private Congratulations @df @nickm @mg on extending Frames into these new canvases, and more to come.

We're really focused on getting the developer experience right over the next few weeks, so once you've integrated with Open Frames you can support as many protocols as you want without a million if statements.

Hey @jessepollak, ask and ye shall receive! Frames go live today in /xmtp with support in @converseapp, @coinbase's OnchainKit, @frames (.js), and the xmtp.chat reference app. We 💜 Farcaster's Frames, so keeping the spec close and also adding compatibility for XMTP signatures was key.

I couln't be more excited to give devs the opportunity to build frames within private conversations. It enables a design area that's incredibly vast (mini social games, polls, productivity apps, etc.). Our goal at Converse is to give you the best UX framework and distribution. Give feedback and we'll iterate fast.

We love what Farcaster started. To help devs make their Frames more valuable is such a huge opportunity. Cool to see the major XMTP developers adopting Open Frames. Even cooler to see @coinbase adopt into OnchainKit https://onchainkit.xyz/xmtpkit/introduction Private messaging + Frames 🔥🔥🔥

A new frames.js version just dropped. It's entirely backwards compatible, and if you want to build frames that work in multiple ecosystems, there's now a simple way to do that. A guide to building a frame that works in Farcaster & XMTP: https://framesjs.org/reference/js/xmtp
