I would argue that people with terrible views/opinions/politics are solely responsible for their own views. People assigning their own responsibility to others both infantilizes and enables them.

Yes. Unless our egos get in the way. Which I think is a big part of the authoritarian trap. “But it’s different if it’s me” is the mantra of repeating the mistakes of others.

And our ability to notice and avoid grave errors is often helped a lot by other people noticing the error first and spreading the word that we should be careful of it!
