I often have people tell me that fiction is a waste of time and ideally I should read the summary on blinkist cause efficiency. Sooo exploring aspects of reality and human nature is not a worthy thing, cause stuff is made up in those books. Have you considered that most economists are also just making stuff up? 😏

man fiction is the single most influential creative form, @prberg doesn't have a way of comprehending his own experience as a living being that exists outside the influence of fiction. imagine placing yourself above it

What a load of bollocks (the quoted cast ofc). Economic theory is build on assumptions in order to test models. Most of these assumptions are so stringed that whatever the model prove is miles away from reality. That's why there is behavioral economics (and behavioral finance). Fictions is a way to play with ideas and also provides a source of learning for people. For example: - Why do you empathize with character A but not B - How can an evil person turn good? - How would a world look like where death does not exists? - Are robots/androids lesser forms of humans

Yes, reading summaries on Blinkist is silly. No, I did not say that learning about reality is not a worthy thing if you prefer to do it via fiction. I only said that *I* prefer to learn the core ideas directly. Yes, most books about economics are not worth reading.

Summaries 🙄 Reading fiction is so much about the experience of reading, of experiencing the unfolding of the story as the author envisioned it. Reading the summary is great for getting closure on a TV series that’s fallen off tho

I've never understood this... something being fictional doesn't somehow take value away from it. You can learn so much from fiction. You can GROW so much from reading it... this is such a weird take.
