Fun fact apparently the reasons the painter painted back figures among other things is he didn't feel good at painting faces upfront.

Last year was his 125th anniversary so there was a lot of material on CDF all over Germany - lots of exhibits too - so I too bought a book on him.

Didn't know that fun fact about the artist, but it makes sense. 

When I was a kid I used to draw horses, and I struggled with drawing hooves at certain angles, so I'd sometimes just draw grass or leaves as a cover over the horses' hooves.
