Every time I hear the term "risk-free rate" it drives me crazy. That is an insane term. Can't believe we've let it spread this far.

Why? In what context? It’s a theoretical benchmark, in reality no investment is entirely risk free.

It’s fine man. It’s a totally fine term for what it is. We spend a gazillion dollars a year on defense so we can call it a risk free rate.

There is a risk free rate. It’s an unobservable variable which is usually proxied by the US short term rate. None of the observable variables are risk free, but you can get close to it.

"risk-free rate" is even more misleading than "clean toilet seat". but it is less absurd than these: – "I know myself" – "animals are primitive" – "I have the right to be this gender" – "art is my thing, not math" – "equal vote democracy" – "we are vegs by god's plan" – "OpenAI: 'gay' is normal by science" – "your 3rd chakra is blocked" ... ...the reset pipeline

What exactly is “risk-free rate”? What impact does it have on the economy
