Having a uniform for work is one of the highest EV things I’ve done I have 5 pairs of the same black shorts and like 8 pairs of the same black shirts that I wear to the gym when I’m training clients It’s easy, consistent, the fit is good so I look good, and I never have to think about it But one of the hidden benefits is when I’m wearing my uniform I’m in “work mode” If I’m working out myself personally I change my shirt into a colored shirt and it’s a clear signal that I’m “off the clock” This separation both helps me mentally create the environment shift but also signals to other people when I am or am not working And having that clear boundary is super important, especially because with my line of work it’s very easy to get dragged into working via giving advice all the time Highly recommend finding an outfit that fits well and using a basic set of rules as a uniform for when you are or are not working

Met this financial guy who’s a hard money lender a couple months ago at a Bris, he talked about wanting to train and we exchanged contacts His office is legit next door to the gym so thought he was serious After a couple texts of trying to find a time he went cold I don’t chase so I left it at that I’m coming out of the gym today as he’s leaving and he stops by to say hello, tbh I didn’t recognize him till he said how we met And he’s like yea we got to connect! Now a small lesson in leverage, I was leaving with my client, so I just say “Yea yea, you’ve got my number. Don’t be afraid to use it” I could see he wasn’t used to getting brushed off like that. He nods and then drives away Maybe he’ll reach out, maybe he won’t. The 2 keys here is that 1) I don’t give af whether he does or doesn’t and 2) if he does I hold all the leverage That’s the power of not chasing. If he wants to train he will, if not I’ll go about my business as normal

Fuck my knee injury has been the worst roller coaster I’ve been on in over 5 years Saw a very experienced orthopedic trauma doc today - he did my friends (pro golfer) full patella reconstruction last year Essentially said his view on the MRI is that he doesn’t think there’s a meniscus tear and if there was, it’s so small he wouldn’t even be able to find it in surgery Said MAYBE there’s a cyst leaking fluid that could be causing my symptoms, but once again that’s just a reach and he says surgery would be a shot in the dark and he doesn’t recommend it On one hand, it’s good thay there’s no structural damage. On the other, it’s really frustrating to be experiencing symptoms with no clear cause and no known solution Making a couple more appts w/ more ortho’s and continuing to gather as much info as I can

The injured knee saga continues After hurting my left knee golfing 3 months ago, I eventually got an mri that was diagnosed as a sprained ACL So I was managing it as such, but put in for a second opinion from a different radiologist just to be sure cause my spidey senses were telling me this wasn’t an ACL injury (my job is literally sports medicine so I have pretty good spidey senses) Well second opinion on the MRI just came back and it reads as a meniscus tear on the posterior horn on the medial side The bad news is that this part of the meniscus absorbs the most force from weight bearing positions & knee extension The only good news is the tear appears to be small and is on the peripheral which has slightly more blood supply than the interior Meeting w/ ortho on Friday to go over treatment options, but this is definitely worse than an acl sprain. Surgery is likely, but need to figure out some stuff first Overall a huge bummer but as with all things, the only way is through

One of my good friends who’s a chef just won a Michelin star for his restaurant in Miami What started as a 2018 food hall concept turned into a 10-seat Michelin star omakase restaurant The Michelin awards were Thursday night, but I happened to already have a dinner reservation for Friday night I’ve been a regular at this Chef’s restaurants for years, and have made a purpose to know all of the staff. The hosts, bare tenders, servers, bussers. I’m not exaggerating when I say I know em all My #2 for dinner is stuck in standstill traffic, so when I told the hostess we’d be super late to sit down she said… “Don’t worry Matt. You’re home.” It feels amazing to be surrounded by dope ass friends who are literally at the top of their craft. Inspired to say the least Surrounds yourself with great people and you will find yourself reaching greatness too
