did a little threadooording about how the degen system in its current state has power to cause serious issues with farcaster communities (despite its obvious benefits too!) evidence of this is what /replyguys is already suffering from give it a read and lmk what you think 🫡

This is such a good thread, and the problem is somewhat universal and not just on farcaster either, even without the existence of degen tipping, the dopamine from likes alone is enough to cross the threshold of some people's "self-check". Even channels like /dev suffer, unfunny memes and no-content posts get attention.

100% a universal problem, you're spot on at base level, all platforms encourage it to an extent, bc they want you to interact w/ their systems but from there platform approaches vary first party monetization layers then make things more complex and third party (a la degen) even more complex def tough to solve for!

I think biggest barrier is human nature itself. This can be a harsh thing to say but the average person needs to be taught what are the good practices and what are the bad ones that will overall, a bit of forced culture of positive feedback to good content and negative to bad can quickly improve quality.

Take reddit for example, which I think you'll agree has generally a better quality of content than say Twitter, and a lot of it comes from the culture there, not the platform's moderation, but people forcing the culture, such as don't reply with an emoji, upvote and move on, or don't say "this" instead add something.
