Their name "Shiba" roughly translates to "brushwood" in Japanese, and "Inu" means "dog," reflecting their ability to navigate through dense underbrush and hunt small game in rugged terrain. Additionally, Shiba Inus are known for their independent nature and their famous facial expression known as the "Shiba smile."
