It is pretty clear that Bitcoin as a blockchain is a colossal waste of energy. As BTC custody continues centralizing to a few ETFs, CEXs, institutions, in the long term >50% of BTC will be held by a handful of organisations Might as well just cancel PoW and move to PoA at that point. It would actually be *more decentralized* as PoW will inevitably centralize over to a handful of industrial players and pools due to crippling economies of scale. Plus, it'll solve the security budget problem. There is an opportunity for allowing any charity to accept donations of *any* token onchain. Hypothetically, let's call this CoinStar 1. Send any token to the CoinStar smart contract address for the charity 2. Smart contract automatically swaps the currency for USDC (may require multiple trades) 3. Longer term: make legal / tax argument that the realized value of the USDC can map back as a valid donation from the original party. Agents can just multi hop n' swap things In today's bts moxie AI Agents demo we swap from one coin through an intermediate coin to a third coin, from a single prompt, without a signature 🪄 this is some next level "account abstraction" accomplished via a custom @moxie.eth Eliza @elizaos-ai plugin + @privy embedded wallet + @0xproject router on @base -- (the multi-hop is needed because the target coin can only be purchased with the intermediate coin $moxie) (the multi-hop is elegantly handled by our Eliza plugin because 0x router cannot on its own in this case)

It is a necessary complement to all of the important short-term work that we need to get done. And in addition to the beam chain, @drakefjustin has been invaluable in helping the verified-zkevm team spin up, as well as all kinds of other cryptography and ZK initiatives. @drakefjustin's work is incredibly valuable to ethereum's future, especially those of us who care about keeping the protocol decentralized and secure long-term and fighting against the zoo of technical bloat. The beam chain roadmap got criticism for the "2029" date, but what that criticism misses is that the beam chain roadmap is a completely separate and parallel workstream from the work that is happening already to meet users' needs in the short term (basically, scaling blobs, where @dankrad has for years played a leading and invaluable part) In 2025, we need blobs (and L1 cost reductions like EIP-4444). In 2026, we need more blobs. @fradamt @dankrad and many others are heroes for pushing forward the research here. By 2030, we need other things: * Long-term robust economics * Long-term robust staking decentralization * A clean and simple protocol, something worthy of a chain that aspires to be a neutral global base layer. This means zeroing out huge amounts of technical bloat ...
