Is there a reasons that produce is so much worse in America compared with Europe? When I’m in the U.S. eating a tomato tastes like nothing and you just have to use your imagination whereas anywhere around the Mediterranean it tastes like having a psychedelic experience.

Earl Butz agriculture secretary in the 1970s https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earl_Butz Produce in USA is optimized for appearance like size and color and lack of blemishes, and for resilience to be shipped in a truck across the country for a couple days before getting on a shelf. Not flavor or nutrition.
