Me: "Hi, I make Generative Art" Everyone: "Cool, me too, look what I made with Midjourney" So that's why I've been using the term Algorithmic Art for code-driven Generative Art lately, as opposed to AI-assisted Generative Art. Already seen AI artwork labeled simlly as “generative art”, so I applaud the effort. My concern would be that algorithmic art sounds even more dry? I’ve played with rule-based / aleatory, parametric immediately sounds like math class. 😅 50 $DEGEN

Important topic and great article! In some ways it's not too late to rebrand what we're doing here, if enough artists agree on a new term. I've used "code-based art" when talking with people that are not in the space. This conveys the essence and is easy to grasp, I think. "Algorithmic art" is more precise though.

Agree! I’ve been using the term algorithmic art or code-based art to describe my work. Feels more accurate. @williamapan uses “code paintings” which I like a lot too!
