To me, the biggest problem with "proof of human origin" is that "human-created" vs "AI-created" is a false binary. Most art and code I create involves many rounds of interaction between me and models. I suspect most interesting things made this decade will be like this https://x.com/trentmc0/status/1794333215290982702

I can't believe I'm about to say this to you of all people.... But I think what people actually want is proof of work πŸ˜›. And by that I mean it feels better to reward humans who have put some amount of time into the content than to reward folks who ran a command in under a second, posted the result and moved on.

I think folks are assuming that what I said is I think proof of work is the standard we should use to judge value πŸ™ƒ. I want to assure you my feelings are more complicated and nuanced than that and depend a lot on context. If somebody produces content I enjoy using AI, I'm all about it. I use AI at work all the time.

I slightly disagree, advancement demands change, the ability to craft a prompt and create a unique piece of art, writing, code or whatever you need is a skill worth rewarding. What should not be rewarded is low effort actions and creations, Human generated or AI assisted... That's my take

Oh, the injustice! It matters only if the person that put in the effort is in school and you are a teacher trying to ensure the pupil is learning. Otherwise the value-ad to humanity is negative. Persisting on this sense of injustice will in a parabolic sense have one use slave labor instead of robots to build pyramids.

To me, it’s not about work amount, nor efficiency. But rather about value. Value comes from scarcity. It’s scarce because it’s difficult to attain. Even though tricky to prove value as explained, in a future where all info is compiled & analyzed, live; valuable and scarce input will stand out.

I love that response. One of the odder things about the AI-assisted discussion is that AI’s llm is based on words that humans invented and used in (literally) countless ways. I learned to write by reading other people’s work and imitating it until I found my own voice. I am the sum of the writers before me.

This is it really, but how on earth does one measure proof of work in this sense? And it gets confusing when we have a master producing incredible work in minutes, when the same work maybe took them 10x as much work 10 yrs earlier. What to do?
