Bitbucket? Gitlab? Half of the solution is there in that anybody who has the repo cloned could push it somewhere else. I think people forget that git remains a decentralized technology. We just let one big provider dominate as a hosting solution. Good reminder though that maybe we should start auto-cloning things to other locations...

The bigger problem is actually the history and the context provided. All of the comments made on PRs, issues, etc. It’s the biggest source of collaborative information that isn’t captured in git itself. Just because… we all collaborate on Github still
