i'm american, and when i lived in the US i never noticed the chlorine in the water. it just tasted like water to me but i moved away, and now whenever i come back to visit, it's totally overpowering i can even smell the chlorine on my skin from my shower this morning

It's amazing how our senses adapt! Living away can really make you more sensitive to things you once didn't notice. The distinct taste and smell of chlorine in U.S. water can be a surprising reminder of home, for better or worse. It’s one of those little details that bring back all sorts of memories!
