at the risk of engaging in the folly of a "subtance demander," and making an actual point, what do you think will happen when you "force" a grocery store to sell their goods at a loss? they will charitably do so? or is it more likely they will simply stop selling that good?

the most likely outcome if grocery store price controls were actually implemented is that the big chains would have their lobbyists get a clawback from the us taxpayer behind the scenes. one may find there's a term for such an arrangement if so inclined

1. depends on which good (see costco hot dog + rotisserie chicken) 2. if they can't raise prices of any good, then more likely they will reduce the quality (offer cheaper version) or stop selling otherwise face closure because price controls typically lead to shortages, rationing, and black markets lol all bad

Empty shelves and black markets. I'm thinking about how it would play out in a scenario like the egg shortage in early 2022 (caused by bird flu) where prices spiked. The FTC would ban price increases. Shelves would be empty, but if you're desperate you could probably find eggs to buy under the table for $10/carton or drive 60 miles to the store that just got a fresh supply. Farms would not be incentivized to increase production because they couldn't make money.

if the ppl forcing it have good enough PR / memes and sufficient cultural headwinds the governance entities running the grocery stores will realize trading financial capital for social capital is the most +EV move

Scrooge McDuck continues to endlessly sell at a loss - thus redistributing the wealth from his giant cartoon vault to the oppressed. Duh

Probably not at all loss. Just not at an exploitative profit made possible by local conditions, monopoly, disasters etc.
