When I met the guy who started the global park(ing) movement (people taking over the space of a parking lot and using it for hanging out/community And he described the movement as “essentially a DAO” :) https://www.myparkingday.org/

In NYC, BIDs (Business Improvement Districts) handle much of street maintenance, cleaning, landscaping, public art, and programming. It’s a local gov style, but wealthy neighborhoods ultimately end up having more and better-funded BIDs, due to higher property values and more businesses, leading to higher assessments and more funding, plus private donations and grants. We need better financial instruments for public space that is equitably distributed across all neighborhoods, not just affluent areas!!!

The streets belong to the people! So do the sidewalks. https://lebbeuswoods.wordpress.com/2011/12/25/michael-sorkin-sidewalks-of-new-york/

Language is very geared towards urban planning audiences— still trying to figure out how to navigate that balance

Fucked around and published my first mirror article! I discuss how NYC’s smart city technology serves a neoliberal agenda, overshadowing the potential for these technologies to genuinely enhance human experiences and societal values. Going to continue to work on this piece, but this is a submission I used for an urban planning journal-fellowship. https://mirror.xyz/miawintam.eth/Yeea7WnTAbJ8XNYQyuDHZaGxvap_IyV6pQ0IzgaWZDE
