Do people actually consciously make a judgement about quality of service when they tip??!

I always just mindlessly add 15-20%. So the whole "tipping incentivizes quality of service" argument has always seemed unrealistic to me.

I tip well out of fear because most places I eat at once are places I eat at twice.

Regarding Vitalik’s post, I always tip 20% but if the service was really good, I’ll tip, so yeah, some of us actually do factor quality of service.

But I do have one hard rule (now). If I have to give you my order while standing, I’m not tipping.
