Once mortal enemies, Egypt and Turkey have officially reconciled as Egyptian President Sisi visited Istanbul this week. The visit caps off a tumultuous decade when the two countries were on opposite sides of the Arab Spring, as well as a proxy war in Libya. The relationship has been amended as Turkey and Egypt now share interests in preventing an Ethiopian annexation of part of Somalia, gas exploration rights in the East Mediterranean, and legal retaliation against Israel over the war in Gaza. Turkey has also reportedly emerged as a major supplier of drones to the Egyptian military though these deals were not discussed in official communiques on the visit. https://www.aljazeera.com/amp/news/2024/9/5/better-together-presidents-of-egypt-turkey-seek-common-ground-in-ankara
