Start with classic rather than skate skis. They're easier and more versatile (you can go on skinnier trails). Wherever you go to buy them, make sure they get your weight, and possibly even put you on the skis to ensure they have the right stiffness for you. If you buy used, the binding will need to match between the skis and boots. NNN bindings are the most common, so I'd go with that. Also, waxless skis are pretty good these days so you really don't need waxed skis. Skin skis (they get grip from a velcro-like patch) are especially popular, I haven't tried them, but ppl seem to really like them. It's a great sport, I hope we can keep getting the weather for it for a long time to come.

For temperature control; we share a duvet, but each use our own house coats as an additional blanket on top. I usually throw mine off during the night, she does not.

Tbh I’m still confused about how it took me so long to learn to sleep on it. The key was to embrace the crater you can dig with your head let it conform to your head and neck. Also if you remove some of the hulls, don’t throw them out until you’re sure you don’t need them.

The physical and economic damage is relatively quantifiable. The cost of the mental anguish is not. It may be the something that weakens it... but it might also be what wakes us from our slumber and creates a more cohesive 'wartime' culture.
