Should I do it? The first two chapters grabbed me, but at nearly 1000 pages, the road ahead is daunting.

ngl i didn’t like it i generally do not think murakami is a great fiction writer it’s the same themes, symbols, mythology, and parallel timeline that meets or crosses at some point in the book structure for at least two of his books (this one and kafka on the shore)

I enjoyed reading this, but the ending is so stupid I refuse to read any of his other books. It felt disrespectful of the time I spent and emotional investment created

I lost interest halfway through. This was after reading Norwegian Wood and Kafka on the Shore. Highly recommend both!

I read it in about two months. It's typical murakami where there is a lot of detail seemingly for the sake of detail. The book COULD have been shorter while still hitting the same points IMO. Murakami always has a weird sexual side, this book also - could be a trigger for many. Overall i'd read it, yes!

Go for it. It's a poorly held belief that you have to finish a book. See what happens.

Enjoyed it, but also had the luxury of reading it in a far-off place for work for two months.
