Can someone explain why a US CBDC would be bad?

basically ask yourself if you want the state to be able to control if/how you can send your money and to whom.

could be wielded as a cudgel based on your political views, employer, credit score, almost anything. should scare leftists just as much as libertarians.

not really, pretty uncommon for the gov to dictate what/where you spend your money on with a credit card. I suppose possible if you’re on the SDN list or similar, but otherwise not likely.

pretty easy to do that with a CBDC on a permissioned chain though, and of course it’s far easier to track your spending habits and other activities.

imo how this plays out is something like the digital yuan and social credit score system in china. so, why allow that to happen when we already have USD stablecoins available via mainstream apps like CB?

Don't they already do for anything but cash though?

Arguably a $ on crypto rails would mean a LOT more people can access these rails and who knows what they do then?
