What’s the crypto equivalent of buying S&P500 in terms of longevity and simplicity?

Would it ever make sense to flip those ratios to put a higher % in the lower priced ones?

I guess that would be flipping BTC and SOL

I guess it depends on your risk tolerance but imo that would be more like active trading, and less like a “set and forget” S&P style index

personally I believe that SOL will perform well in the next 6-12mo but it will also have a greater bear market drawdown vs. BTC or ETH

top 50 is full of garbage though, lots of those tokens will only appreciate significantly in the very last phase of the market cycle after an ETH solo rally (“alt season”) and will be outperformed by BTC until then.

if you’re actually shoving a big chunk of your NW, large majority in BTC/ETH/SOL makes the most sense. maybe like 90/10 majors/flavour-of-the-week or similar.

It needs to be an index which shifts with the meta… if you only hold the top 3 you don’t get exposure to evolving metas… aka no $virtual exposure in December not ideal.

cb50 was mentioned, yet to be crypto native probably needs rebalancing on a monthly basis at least cause of speed of evolution

would also say that there is some idiosyncrasy to crypto majors since they’ve so far exhibited strong cyclic behaviour along 4-year liquidity cycles.

maybe this volatility will diminish over time with the ETFs, but right now it’s quite striking to see how e.g. ETH only outperforms in a relatively small window near the end of a given cycle. so you really need to take a long-term view if you’re not planning on actively trading.

we also only have two majors with approved ETFs, so BTC and ETH are the only assets with potential future flows from tradfi/institutions. obviously not exactly guaranteed, but puts them into a different category of investment vehicle.

remains to be seen if other assets in the top 10 like SOL and XRP get ETFs approved under the Trump admin.
