Most people seem to think it's bad (incl. me) but would be interested in a contrarian take from someone who thinks it's good

I think it's not good or bad, it just is. People will use the internet to connect in all kinds of ways including to date.

The problem IMO is the current set of dating apps, which push people into loops of looking (and paying) but never leaving. Hinge is the only one that's not awful and even that feels predatory.
