Every so often i feel this desire for something like the sims or club penguin or second life to come back. 

and yet we have things like minecraft, roblox, gta 5, fortnite

is there something to this or do i just need to get with the program? what do you think?

part of my long term goal with my minecraft city is to strike a balance in the middle, but it’s just a hobby project. i’m surprised there aren’t more attempts by game studios.

fortnite and roblox i just missed the boat on

gta is too manufactured… yea you can have a lot of fun, but there’s very little creativity involved

minecraft is the opposite… complete creative control, but it’s harder for the average player to create something magical. and it doesn’t have a town square.

I think you might just be too old and part of the magic was having a place to hang out with your friends in a place that seemed cool

MC/Roblox probably just doesn't seem cool enough to your subculture

i never got into wow tbh! so maybe. i think animal crossing was just so far away from realizing this idea that it didn’t come to mind. pokémon would’ve been the nintendo game i would guess could do it but alas.

hmmm what about mmorpgs like wow, etc? or neopets? or animal crossing? is there something about sims/club penguin/etc that is different?

i think what you're missing is friends to play games with and the ability to ignore everything else in your life for a few hours in a row lol
