speaking anecdotally, I invite fewer of my friends to FC now than I did a year or two ago. Still unpacking the reasons / thoughts behind that but curious if others feel the same.

Do you feel this way maybe cause you think the algorithm doesn’t necessarily benefit new users ? Personally I invited some of my friends and they left cause it was pretty hectic for them

Part of it for me is that I know how hard they have to work to find a cozy corner for themselves. The caveats I have to put into all of the great things about WC is a little rough. 1. you won't be seen at the start but eventually people will start talking to you 2. try not to reply to too many people you don't know unless you have really interesting things to say or they will think you are a spammer 3. You need pay $5 but eventually you can earn it back through all of the incentives in the app 4. What incentives, well there are things called tipping tokens....and there there is Moxie.... 5. People are amazing, but there are lots of bots too, so look out for them and don't follow too many or you'll get categorized as one as well 6. Etc, etc. etc I've tried to talk through these and unless you're in crypto where something like "some of the brightest minds in ETH" isn't going to draw you in, there are a lot of hoops to jump through.

TL;DR Our group has about 30+ ish folks most are still on twitter as well. Many of them have significantly cut back after the initial endorphin rush ended where about 3-7 of us are on here daily working to make this place home. It becomes harder to since most feel the lack of growth, engagement having to give away our art, creations and things we build for almost free. This place has had ebbs and flows for me. From the shadowban screaming into the void to a power badge only to find that so many accounts follow me only about 5% seem to be real folxs looking to make a difference. My cohort still here keeps me going and I hope I do to them as well. It’s been a hard road and these large gaps between the top 1% and others are felt more. Hope for a change yet the only thing I can control is my own self time and reactions. Gotta cut back, the fear of losing the hidden power badge that I worked so hard for keeps me on here much longer than I should starting to feel very unhealthy for a few dollars a day.

I’ve been extremely active here for 6 months. I don’t invite new people to Farcaster anymore. I tried to onboard a lot of people at the beginning. A core of users stayed but 90% of the artist community I helped onboard are no longer active. It’s a graveyard of user profiles that I brought on. A focus on how to get those users back on the platform seems like a better bet than trying to convince someone new that it makes sense for them.

I couldn’t get any of them to stick. They felt invisible. But maybe it was just bad timing when the algo was really mean to new folks.

me too. i was really enthusiastic about inviting my friends 2 years ago, but most of them have churned they found it hard to find content they cared about (i don't think this has become easier despite channels because most content sucks) and they found it impossible to get engagement; having started a 2nd account on FID 400k+, it is virtually impossible unless you commit hours a day to it

I only invite people I think would be a good culture fit, and not everyone is. I think eventually, Farcaster will be a platform where a ton of different cultures can exist in their own comfy corners, but we're not there yet.

We've lost Memetics, we need space to create more: - False beliefs - Useless rules - Unnecessary rituals Two years ago people thought a Farcaster coin was coming, /dont-do-this didn't exist, and everyone posted gm all the time.

Same. I didn’t invite many as it was too crypto focused for general users back then. Even more so now

I've found that I just don't want them here (the ones that I don't want to invite) I don't want to invite Facebook, discord, twitter, or other online friends because I don't want to recreate that environment here.

Same, which is a shame cause I really do think FC is an ideal platform for web3 but engagement for artists is honestly terrible. Worse than most alternatives. Its extremely difficult to grow a new account, esp with channel moderation (bots often have less than 500 followers so I set mine up as a rule to have more than that so new users are hidden). Kinda shitty but idk what other solution there is to ban bots.

Cuz they don’t appreciate it. This isn’t just an invite this is a key to the future. You ungrateful ingrates. You don’t deserve these invites. That’s kind of what I feel like sometimes hahaha

i made a solid effort at recruitment when @dwr.eth gave a bunch of invites back in the no one was here era, my egirl cabal didn't want to put the effort into a new platform now i don't even have the 'this is fertile ground' pitch because i don't think it is, the memetokens have really made the culture here outside of a few spaces suck and whether they want to build an audience or community i think there are better places for them to do it
